The two-armed Padmavati was popular in Jaina worship even after the introduction of four-armed as can be seen from a bronze dated in V.S.1330 (A.D. 1273) still in worship in a Jaina temple in Baroda. 2. Four-armed variety
Four-armed variety was very popular among both the Svetambara and Digambara sect. We have good number of representations of this form. Her color is red to terrific red with occassional image of golden or black colour. The number of hoods varies from one to nine. Kukkata-sarpa is her vehicle in most of the cases but swan is also noticed. A couple of images shows cock as the vahana. The symbols are more or less identical. They are : noose, lotus, goad, citron, varada, abhaya, fruit, varadaksa, snake, folded anjalimudra, rosary, pot, kataka ( book ? ) vajra, axe, sword shield, conch.
This form is found at Vimala Vasahi, Kharatara Vasahi both at Abu, Neminatha temple Kumbharia, Tiruparuttikunram ( Jina Kasi ), Parsvanatha temple Humcha, Pancakulla Basti, Santinatha Basti, Jinarathpur, at Lakkundi at Dharwar, Mudabidri, Mugad.
The Adbhuta-Padmavati Kalpa composed by Sri Candrasuri, pupil of Yasobhadra upadhyaya, says that the goddess rides on the swan, and shows the fruit, the varadamudra, the noose and the goad in four hands. She is further addressed as terrific in appearance (bhairava, raudra), with blood shot eyes (raudra locanavatare) and is also called Tara. The saviours impregnable she drives out, by her fierce laughter, the fifty-two ksetrpalas the eightyfour cetakas, and the hosts of the bhutas. She is vanquisher of the sixty four yoginis and is ever ready to dispose of such supernatural beings as kala, vyala, vetala, karala, kavikala, bhuta, preta, pisaca, yaksa, raksasa, gandharva, kinnara and uragendra. The three cobra heads hissing over her crown melt the pride of the wicked red in complexion. Padmavati removes all miseries and is, verily, the wish- giving Cintamani-stone. She is also known by the name of Kamalavati.
The Adbhuta Padmavati Kalpa gives a different form. Here she is white in complexion and is dressed in white garments Sri Padma
