(9) Parihāra also fermed anupasthāna, an
upasthāpanā and pinchha (humiliating, or expulsion, for a time, from
the sangha i en community), (10) Sj addhāna (re-admission into the faith)
The above are all the recognized forms of penance. In addition to them there is another kind of penance which is known as varyāvritya (service or nursing). This is comprised in the parlhāra penance, according to strict classification The form known as pāranchha signifies expulsion, full and complete, and is but another word for parihāra. Parihāra is termed pinchha because of the person who is undergoing it being required to hold his feather whisk (the pichhe) in front of him, as a mark whereby it may be known that he is undergoing that form of penance
Bathing is recommended in case of contact with an unclean person, e gn a pariah' Elsewhere one käyotsarga is provided as the proper penalty for such a contact * Bathing is said to be of three kinds with water, with the holy mantras (recitation) and with disciplinary rous :
