The general rule with regard to tlus is as follows: There the people, whether of one's own faith, or the followers of other creeds, are resnectful and where the best of rich food is obtainable, serere tapa is indicated there; where the food obtainable is of a middling kind, less serere forms of penance should be enforced there; and there inferior kind of food, eg., cheap rice, is to be bad, there the lightest penances, namely, āchâmla, niruz hrets, purumandala and elasthāna are to be giren, but not uparāsa
