सुवर्णभूमि में कालकाचार्य ग्रीक-लाटिन ग्रन्थकार भी सुवर्णभूमि, सुवर्णद्वीप का उल्लेख करते हैं। क्रिसी (Chryse जिसका अर्थ सुवर्ण होता है) द्वीप का, पोम्पोनिअस मेल (ई० स०४१-५४) अपने De Chorographia में उल्लेख करता है। प्लिनी, टॉलेमी वगैरह ग्रन्थकारों के बयानों में, और पेरिप्लस में भी, इसका उल्लेख है। टॉलेमी सिर्फ क्रिसी-द्वीप के बजाय Chryse Chora (सुवर्णभूमि) और Chryse Chersonesus (सुवणेद्वीपकल्प) का निर्देश करता है।
अरबी ग्रन्थकारों के पिछले बयानों को यहाँ विस्तारभय से छोड़ देंगे। किन्तु इन सब साक्षियों की विस्तृत समीक्षा के बाद डाक्टर रमेशचन्द्र मजुमदार ने जो लिखा है वही देख लें। आप लिखते हैं
“The Periplus makes it certain that the territories beyond the Ganges were called Chryse. It does not give us any means to define the boundaries more precisely, beyond drawing our attention to the facts that the region consisted both of a part of mainland as well as an island, to the east of the Ganges, and that it was the last part of the inhabited world. To the north of this region it places "This" or China. In other words, Chryse, according to this authority, has the same connotation as the Trans-Gangetic India of Ptolemy, and would include Burma, Indo-China and Malaya Archipelago, or rather such portions of this vast region as were then known to the Indians. Ptolemy's Chryse Chersonesus undoubtedly indicates Malaya Peninsula, and its Chryse Chora must be a region to the north of it. Now we have definite evidence that a portion of Burma was known in later ages as Suvarnabhūmi. According to Kalyāņi Inscriptions (Suvarnabhiumi-ratta-samkhata Ramannadesa), Ramanmadesa was called Suvarnabhumi which would then comprise the maritime region between Cape Negrais and the mouth of the Salvin............There can also be hardly any doubt, in view of the statement of Arab and Chinese writers, and the inscription found in Sumātrā itself, that the island was also known as Suvarnabhāmi and Suvarnadvipa........There are thus definite evidences that Burma, Malaya Peninsula and Sumātrā had a common designation of Suvarnabhūmi, and the name Suvarnadvīpa was certainly applied to Sumātrā and other islands of the Malaya Archipelago."32
इस तरह डा० मजुमदार के अन्वेषण से बर्मा, मलय द्वीपकल्प, सुमात्रा और मलय द्वीपसमूह से अभी पिछाने जाते प्रदेशों के लिए सुवर्णभूमि शब्द प्रचलित था, और विशेष सुमात्रा और मलयसामुद्रधुनि (Malaya Archipelago) का द्वीपसमूह सुवर्णद्वीप कहा जाता था।
बृहत्कल्पसूत्र की भाष्य-गाथा में, और उत्तराध्ययन नियुक्ति में "सुवण्ण" शब्द है जिससे सुवर्णभूमि या सुवर्णद्वीप दोनों अर्थ घटमान होते हैं। किन्तु चूर्णिकार और टीकाकार (मलयगिरि) जैसे बहुश्रुत विद्वानों ने अपने को प्राप्त आधारग्रन्थ और प्राचीन-परम्परागत ज्ञान के अनुसरण में सुवर्णभूमि अर्थ दिया है। इस लिए कालकाचार्य दक्षिण-बर्मा, उसके पूर्व के और दक्षिण के प्रदेशों में विचरे थे ऐसा अर्थ घटाना ठीक होगा। वहाँ से आगे वे कहाँ तक गये, और "अज्ज कालग"ने शेष जीवन में क्या क्या किया,
