The Saint poet, although an ascetic is not indiffenent to the gist of the present age of moral decadence. At present all moral values have vanished from the world. Inhumanity reigns supreme. Money has become the most coveted commodity to man. He hankers after it like a rabbit. He remarks:
"i gosta a TT / T 49€ A 17 1199 ” (q.CP) In the words of 'Mati' in The era of sins (Kaliyuga) all that is bad appears attractive to people. In fact The era of truth (Satyuga) and 'Kaliyuga' are two mental attitudes. When people are busy pursuing the truth it is 'satyuga' and the Vice versa (page 83). 'Satyuga' stands for love, amity and goodwill while 'Kaliyuga' for nescience, untruth, dissension and evil. In the words of Mati :
"कलि की आँखों में/भ्रान्ति का तमस ही/गहराता है सदा
3it/Ha a stat #/mp T HTH ET/ETATÈ HETI" (q.c8) Thus the dialogues of the Fish and Mati (Soil) hint at the eternal varities of life. Mati defines "Sallekhana' and says that it involves the process of enfeebling the body and stifling the passions that lie there-in. When senses are weakened all the vices and passions are stifled. While performing this penance the aspirant should remain indifferent to pain and pleasure. This attitude of aloofness is called Sallekhana (page 87). Purity of heart or innocence is the bedrock of the state of Samadhi as the Mati puts :
“31 yal, azt/HTLH HEMA 671,461 Hafê oor I” (q.cc) The words ‘uifana grl', i.e. mercy is true Religion embody the gist of Dharma'.
Thus the very first chapter of Mook Mati' enshrines the gist of 'Dharma' and eternal verities of life. The style of the poet is remarkable for lucidity of diction, picturesqueness, vivid imagery, effective use of similes, metaphors and alliteration. The poet is an extra-ordinary sage. He is visionary, a prophet and inspired soul. This book is a scripture which will serve as a beacon light to mankind groping in the darkness of ignorance.
