As pointed out by H.R. - Kapadiā, on the strength of the reference in Dharma-Sāgara-gani's PattāvaliSamuccaya DV completed the major portion of the poem before VS 1648 but completed it after the death of HV in V.S. 1652 ( Jaina-Satya Prakās' a XVII 1:36.)
Whether DV composed a poem called Hīra Sundara Kávya and enlarged it into the present Hīra Saubhāg. yam is a moot point. H. R. Kapadia does not believe in the theory proposed by Muni Maharaja Sri Darśana Vijayaji in Jain Satya Prakās's Vol. 15. Further research will throw some light on it as an epitome can be an abridgement of a big work and not necessarily the first draft or coha as the Muniji puts it. .
