________________ Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra www.kobatirth.org Acharya Shri Kailassagarsuri Gyanmandir INTRODUCTION 19 Panditācārya Yogirāt. The way in which he specifies his association with Belgola is more or less identical with that found in GV.1 It is further stated that Panditācārya Yogiraç was a Guru of the Jaina Maţha at Śravaņa Belgoļa in Mysore.' So it is quite likely that the same Panditācārya has composed the GV and the San commentary on the Párávābhyudaya. The former was written when he had just become a Bhattáraka, hence his title Abhinava-Cárukīrti; but the latter was composed at a mature age when he had became famous as Yogirăț and when his successor was more or less nominated. It is at the request of his sūnu, pupilsuccessor that he wrote the commentary.' This commentary is assigned to a date later than Saka 1321, ie., A, D. 1399, because it frequently quotes Nánārtharatnamālā of Iruga Dandanātha who served under Harihar II (Sake 1321 ). So we can assign Papditācārya sometime between A. D. 1400-1758. iii) The two Śravaņa Belagoļa inscriptions noted above, namely, Nos. 254 ( 105 ) of 1398 and 258 ( 108 ) of 1432 A. D., give us some details about our author. Abhinava Panditācārya caused to be made an epitaph in honour of his departed Guru in 1398; and he is being addressed as Panditendra Yogirāja by his pupil Śruta 1 ) star. 2) Vide thc English preface to the edition noted above. 3) See the footnote No. 7 a bove.
