जानाना अपि दम्भस्य स्फुरितं बालिशा जना: । तत्रैव धृतविश्वासाः प्रस्खन्ति पदे पदे ॥ ९ ॥

भावार्थ : दम्भ ( गूढ़ कपट) के परिणाम को स्पष्ट जानते हुए भी मूढ़जन उसी दम्भ में विश्वास रखकर कदमकदम पर स्खलित होते (चूकते) हैं, अथवा जगह-जगह तिरस्कृत-अपमानित होते हैं ॥९॥
अहो मोहस्य माहात्म्यं दीक्षां भागवतीमपि । दम्भेन यद्विलुम्पन्ति कज्जलेनेव रूपकम् ॥१०॥
भावार्थ : अहो! मोहनीय कर्म का अद्भुत प्रभाव कि जिस प्रकार काजल पोतकर कोई अपने असली चेहरे को काला-श्याह कर लेता है, उसी प्रकार मूर्ख मनुष्य भी भागवती दीक्षा स्वीकारकर माया ( कपट) से उसे दूषित कर देता है ॥१०॥
अब्जे हिमं तनौ रोगो, वने वह्निर्दिने निशा । ग्रन्थे मौर्य्यं कलि सौख्ये धर्मे दम्भ उपप्लवाः ॥११॥
भावार्थ : जैसे कमल पर हिमपात ( पाला पड़ना), शरीर में रोग, वन में आग, दिन में रात (अंधेरा), ग्रन्थ के सम्बन्ध में मूर्खता और सुख के प्रसंग में क्लेश उपद्रवरूप हैं, उसी प्रकार धर्म की आराधना में दम्भ उपद्रवकारक है । इससे धर्म की विशुद्धता नष्ट हो जाती है ॥११॥
