The author says that lie wrote this work after having collected the required materials from various treatises and at the instance of King Manva Samudra, son of Bhaktibhūmipati who was a devotee of Siva. Beginning:
जगद्वैचित्यजननजागरूकपदद्वयम् । अनियोगरसाभिज्ञमाचं मिथुनमाश्रये ॥ समुल्लासरसाकारं तत्वकैरवकौमुदीम् । नमामि शारदां देवीं नामरूपाधिदेवताम् ।।
