बारहवी सदीके बोप्पण पण्डित नामक कन्नड विद्वान्ने नक्षत्रमालिका नामकी पद्यरचनामे भगवान्का सुन्दर वर्णन करते हुए एक पद्यमे वडी मार्मिक बात कही है-'अत्यन्त उन्नत आकृतिवाली वस्तुमे सौन्दर्यका दर्शन नहीं होता, जो अतिशय सुन्दर वस्तु होती है वह अतीव उन्नत आकारवाली नही होती। किन्तु, गोम्मटेश्वरकी मूर्तिमे यह लोकोत्तरता है कि वह अत्यन्त उन्नत होनेपर भी अनुपम सौदर्यसे विभूषित है।' मैसूर राज्यके पुरातत्त्व विभागके डायरेक्टर डा. कृष्णा एम० ए०, पो० एच० डी० लिखते है-“शिल्पीने जैनधर्मके सम्पूर्ण त्यागकी भावना अपनी छैनीसे इस मूर्तिके अग-अगमे पूर्णतया भर दी है। मूर्तिकी नग्नता जैनधर्मके सर्वस्व त्यागकी भावनाका प्रतीक है। एकदम सीधे और उन्नत मस्तक युक्त प्रतिमाका अगविन्यास आत्मनिग्रहको सूचित करता है। होठोकी दया-मयी मुद्रासे स्वानुभूत आनन्द
और दुखी दुनियाके साथ सहानुभूतिकी भावना व्यक्त होती है।" ____ 'Picturesque Mysore' 'नामक पुस्तकमे मृतिके विषयमे
