भावार्थ : इस संसार में माता, पिता, भाई आदि अपनी अभीष्ट वस्तु प्राप्त होने पर ही अनुकूल व सहमत होते हैं । धनिक उसके उपकार आदि गुणों को जानता हुआ भी धन नहीं देता । क्योंकि इस जगत् में सभी लोग अपने-अपने स्वार्थ की वृद्धि में ही निरन्तर रचे-पचे (गाढ परिणामी) रहते हैं । इसलिए संसार के सुख की नाप-जोख करने वाले (प्रमाता) किस रसिक को इसमें सुख कहने में दिलचस्पी है ? ॥१४॥ पणैः प्राणैर्गृह्नात्यहह महति स्वार्थ इह यान् । त्यजत्युच्चैलॊकस्तृणवदघृणस्तानपरथा ॥ विषं स्वान्ते वक्त्रेऽमृतमिति च विश्वासहतिकृद् । भवादित्युद्वेगो यदि न गदितैः किं तदधिकैः ॥१५॥
भावार्थ : अहो ! अपना बड़ा स्वार्थ सिद्ध होता है तो लोग जिन (निर्धन यानी नीच अथवा स्वजन) व्यक्तियों को प्रशंसा, प्रतिष्ठा या धन प्रदान करके प्राणपण से अपनाते हैं, स्वार्थ सिद्ध न होने पर उन्हीं को निर्दयतापूर्वक तिनके की तरह छोड़ देते हैं। इस प्रकार सांसारिक जन हृदय में विष और मुख में अमृत रखकर विश्वासघात करते हैं। अगर ऐसे संसार से तुम्हें उद्वेग (वैराग्य) नहीं होता तो फिर अधिक कहने से क्या लाभ है? कुछ भी नहीं ॥१५॥ दृशां प्रान्तैः कान्तैः कलयति मुदं कोपकलितैरमीभिः खिन्नः स्याद् धनधननिधीनामपि गुणी ॥ ३६

When self-interest is not fulfilled, they ruthlessly abandon them like straw. Thus, worldly people harbor poison in their hearts and nectar in their mouths, betraying trust. If you are not distressed (**vairagya**) by such a world, then what is the benefit of saying more? Nothing at all. ||15||

**भावार्थ:** With beautiful appearances, they create joy, but when these appearances are marred, even the wealthy and virtuous become distressed. ||36||
