By the use of autosuggestion technique and intense willing, the practitioner can modify his psychological distortions, change his attitude and behavioral patterns and generally develop his personality. This is accomplished by PM, followed by value-added meditation. It is a set of purifactory techniques by which one can control passions, emotions, and negative approach as well as various physical ailments. Body, Mind and Soul Every mundane being is a soul with a body and not a body with a soul. Soul or spirit or psyche or consciousness is a distinct substance from the body. Higher forms of life have minds. Even this mind is not the soul. It is called mana as distinguished from citta i.e. cetana which is a manifestation of soul. Physical mind (dravya mana) may be called brain, but bhava mana is a state of consciousness -cetana. 'Bhava', in Jaina terminology, is the transformation of sentience on account of the rise and cessation of karma. IJT defines citta thus: -" manovakkaya pravartakam niscayatmakam jnanam cittam | " (II-22) The psyche or citta is a definite knowledge that activates the mind, speech and the body. Mana is defined as "sarvartha grahi traikalikam manah," | (ibid, II-41 ) The mind is the organ of apprehension of all objects - of all sense organs of the three periods of time viz. past, present and future.
