સ્તોત્રસાહિત્યની વિરાટ સૃષ્ટિ છે 9. (4) A song in praise of Gods of heroes is used in the septuagint to denote various Hebrew musical forms and was adopted by the Church (Council of Toledo, 633) to mean any song of praise to God except the psalms."
(5) Song of praise and thanks giving to God, Hymns were introduced in to Christian worship at an early date. 99
(9) The word 'Hymn' was employed by the ancient Greeks to signify a song or poem composed in honour of Gods, heroes or famous men, or to be recited on some joyful, mournful or solemn occasion."
(૮) Stotra denotes the song' of the udgatr and his assistant priests.
(e) A stotra is the direct speech in the intensity of feeling when the devotee becomes inspired and has come nearest to the Divine presence. ?
(90) A stotra is composition that praises the virtues of a God with a view to promoting bhakti in the minds of the people who chant the stotra."
(૧૧) સ્તોત્ર માટે કહેવામાં આવ્યું છે કે પ્રતિ તિરસ્ત્રીષ્મ સ્તોત્રમ - કોઈ દેવતાનું છંદોબદ્ધ સ્વરૂપ કથન કે ગુણકીર્તન અથવા સ્તવન સ્તોત્ર કહેવાય છે.
(૧૨) નૈરો દોસ્તૃ ગૌર ઉસ સહાય પુરોહિત નો શત્ર Eી ગયા હૈ, વૈસે શી વાતૃ और उसके सहायक के स्तुतिगान को स्तोत्र कहा गया है ।२३
(૧૩) સ્તુતિવાક્ય. કોઈ પણ દેવની છંદોબદ્ધ સ્તુતિ, સ્તુતિનાં પદ, સમગાનયુક્ત મંત્ર પ્રકરણ, કોઈ પણ દેવ વગેરેની સ્તુતિના શ્લોક, પ્રભુની મહત્તા અને મનુષ્યની દીનતા દાખવતા ખંડકાવ્ય ખાસ કરીને પૂજા વખતે બોલાય છે.* સ્તોત્રના પ્રકારો :
પ્રકૃતિનાં અનેક તત્ત્વોની જેમ સ્તોત્રના પ્રકારો અનેક ગણાવી શકાય તેમ છે. શાસ્ત્રમાં કહ્યું
रुचीनां वैचित्र्याद् ऋजुकुप्लिनानापथजुषाम् આ ઉક્તિ અનુસાર ભક્તિ, આચાર્ય અને કવિઓના વાગ્વિલાસને વરસાદના દિવસોમાં અચાનક વરસેલી બુંદોની જેમ તેવી મતિ, તેવી રૂચિ, તેવી ગતિ માર્ગોનુસરણની પદ્ધતિની ગણના સમુદ્રના તરંગ, નક્ષત્રમાલા તથા આકાશના તારાગણના સમૂહની ગણનાની જેમ ચોક્કસ અશક્ય
