કાળ (Time) વિશેનાં આધુનિક વિજ્ઞાનનાં નીચેનાં ઉદ્ધરણાના અભ્યાસ કરવાથી ખ્યાલ આવશે કે કાળ વિશેના વિજ્ઞાનના વિચારે અને જૈન દાર્શનિક માન્યતાઓમાં ખૂબ જ સામ્ય છે.
1. The speed of a space point relative to its surrounding points is the fundamental aspect incorporated in the design of the universal space and from this basic phenomenon of "changing positions or space points" arises the very #concept of time'
2. Since the dynamic state of space is eternal time too is basically eternal.
3. Since all the material phenomena originate from space, the time related with changes in our material enviornment is also a product from the primary time inherent in the dynamic substratum of space. Time is real since space and its motion are real. Time is absolute since space is absolute.
આ ત્રણે ઉદ્ધરણેા, જૈન દનની નિશ્ચયકાળની વ્યાખ્યાને પ્રતિબિંબિત કરે છે. જ્યારે નીચેનું ચેાથું ઉદ્ધરણ કાળની અસરોને જણાવે છે.
4. The 'time' of our day today experience emerges from the changes in the position of meterial bodies and also changes in their structure due to the inevitable field interactions causing assembly, decay and disintegration.
આ ચારે ય ઉદ્ધરણાના અથ નીચે પ્રમાણે છે.
૧, અવકાશી બિંદુની, તેની આજુબાજુના અન્ય અવકાશી બિંદુએની સાપેક્ષતામાં થતી, ગત-એ મૂળભૂત ષ્ટિકાણ છે કે જે લાકાકાશ (Universal Space ) ની સંરચનાને સમજવામાં ઉપયાગી છે અને (પદાર્થાની) સ્થિતિમાં અથવા આકાશી બિંદુએમાં થતા પરિવર્તનની મૂળભૂત આ ઘટનામાંથી જ સમયના ખ્યાલ–વિચાર અથવા વિભાવના જન્મી છે.
ર. અવકાશની ગતિશીલ અવસ્થા અનાદિ-અનંત છે માટે મૂળભૂત રીતે સમય પણ અનાદિ-અનત છે.
૩. બધી જ ભૌતિક-પૌદ્ગલિક ઘટનાએ, અવકાશમાં જ બને છે. માટે પૌલિક પદાર્થાના પિરવન સાથે સંબંધિત સમય (કાળ) પણ અવકાશના ગતિશીલ-આધારની સાથે સબધિત પ્રાથમિક કાળની નીપજ છે. કાળ વાસ્તવિક છે કારણ કે અવકાશ અને તેની ગતિ પણ વાસ્તવિક છે. કાળનું અસ્તિત્વ નિરપેક્ષ છે કારણ કે અવકાશનું અસ્તિત્વ નિરપેક્ષ છે.
૪. આપણા રોજિંદા જીવનમાં અનુભવાતા સમય, ભૌતિક પદાર્થાની પરિસ્થિતિમાં થતા ફેરફાર તથા સંયેાજન, સડન અને વિઘટનના કારણુ સ્વરૂપ અનિવાર્યપણે થતી આંતરિક પ્રક્રિયાઓના કારણે તે પદાર્થાના માળખા (Structure) માં થતા પરિવત નામાંથી પ્રગટે છે. જૈન-દન પ્રમાણે, અવકાશ એક અને અખંડ દ્રવ્ય છે અને તે નિષ્ક્રિય છે પરંતુ પુદ્ગલ (Matter) ગતિશીલ છે અને સપૂર્ણ લેાકમાં (બ્રહ્માંડમાં) વ્યાપ્ત છે. તેથી ઉપરના વૈજ્ઞાનિક ખ્યાલામાં ‘અવકાશ’ના સ્થાને ‘પુદ્ગલ' મુકવાથી તે બધા જ ખ્યાલેા જૈન દર્શન સંમત અની જશે.
જ'બૂઢીપ સ’ગ્રહણી સૂત્રમાં – કોઈ ખાસ વિશિષ્ટ પ્રકારનું ગણિત આવતું નથી, ફક્ત ૧,૦૦,૦૦૦ યેાજનના વ્યાસવાળા જ શ્રૃદ્વીપના પરિધિ (Circumference of Jambudvipa) અને ગણિતપદ એટલે કે ફોત્રફળ (Area of Jambudvipa ) કઈ રીતે કાઢવું તે ખતાવેલ છે.
