________________ Preface too, thongh it has been a great strain to me, especially when I am advanced in age and when my eye-sight has become weak. V Appendices IV-VII, IX and X are prepared on the same lines as chalked out for Vol. XVII. The remaining ones differ as under as this Vol. deals with works of both the sects of the Jainas: Appendix I is divided into three groups by taking into account the sects of authors. The Svetämbara ones are mentioned first to suit the plan chalked out in 1933 for the Jaina Catalogue by this Institute. This arrangement is applicable to Appendices II and III, too, and partly to Appendix VIII while dealing with "Schools and Sub-schools" as well as with Monks and Nuns". This very procedure is henceforth adopted for Appendices of Vols. XVIII and XX, too. (2) The majority of hymns pertains to Tirthankaras. (3) Some of the Tirthankaras have more than one name. (4) Some of these hymns throw light on appelations of certain Tirthankaras-appelations which have been derived from places where images of these Tirthankaras are installedsituated. For instance, Lord Parsva is many a time designated after names of places where his idols are installed'. Parts 1-2 of this Vol. XIX furnish us with some such names. I may mention them as under along with the serial number of the hymn concerned: 1 On pp. 373-374 I have noted places where idols of the following Tirthan. karas are installed: ऋषभ, सम्भव, शीतल, मुनिवन, नेमि & महावीर,
