भावी तीर्थकरत्व ।
समंतभद्रके लोकहितकी मात्रा इतनी बढ़ी हुई थी कि उन्हें रात दिन
"उसीके संपादनकी एक धुन रहती थी; उनका मन, उनका वचन और उनका शरीर सब उसी ओर लगा हुआ था; वे विश्वभरको अपना कुटुम्ब समझते थे-उनके हृदयमें 'विश्वप्रेम' जागृत था-और एक कुटुम्बीके उद्धारकी तरह वे विश्वभरका उद्धार करनेमें सदा सावधान रहते थे। वस्तुतत्त्वकी सम्यक् अनुभूतिके साथ, अपनी इस योगपरिणतिके द्वारा ही उन्होंने उस महत्, निःसीम तथा सर्वातिशायि 'पुण्यको संचित किया मालूम होता है जिसके कारण वे इसी भारतवर्षमें 'तीर्थकर' होनेवाले हैं—धर्मतीर्थको चलानेके लिये अवतार लेनेवाले हैं । आपके ' भावी तीर्थकर' होनेका उल्लेख कितने ही ग्रंथों में 'पाया जाता है, जिनके कुछ अवतरण नीचे दिये जाते हैं
श्रीमूलसंघव्योमेन्दु रते भावितीर्थकृत् । देशे समंतभद्राख्यो मुनि यात्पदर्द्धिकः ॥
--विक्रान्तकौरव प्र.। श्रीमूलसंघव्योम्नेन्दुर्भारते भावितीर्थकृद्देशे समन्तभद्रार्यो जीयात्प्राप्तपदचिकः ॥
-जिनेंद्रकल्याणाभ्युदय । उक्तं च समन्तभद्रणोत्सर्पिणीकाले आगामिनिभविष्यत्तीर्थकर परमदेवेन–'कालेकल्पशतेऽपिच' ( इत्यादि — रत्नकरंडक'का पूरा पद्य दिया है । )
