On asking her how she happened to be in the forest she told me as follows: "I am the nurse of Savrată, the daughter of Kālagupta, the merchant magnate of the island of Kälayavana. She was married by Ratnodbhava, the son of Padmodbhava, a leading merchant of Pagpa- pori. The couple were living at Kālayavana. Os hearing of the accession of Rājahamsa he started in a skip accompanied by his pregnant wife and me with the object of meeting him and his brothers. Bat on the way the ship was wrecked. “Ratnodbhava, the son of a minister of Magadha, married Suvrată the daughter of & merchant by name Kūlagupta, in the island of Kalayavana. In due course, Savrată became pregnant. Ratnod. bhava started with her and me her nurse in a ship to see his brothers. Bat on the way the ship was wrecked. Suvratā and myself swam ashore catching hold of a log. What happened to Ratnodbhava is not known. Sapratā gave birth to a child today and is lying unconscious at the foot of a tree. Since it was difficult to remain in the forest, I started in search of the path-way to the country, and as it was improper to leave the baby with its mother who was lying very much
