________________ Verse 50 Of the thirty-four miraculous happenings (atiśaya), ten appear naturally at the time of birth, ten on attainment of infinite knowledge (kevalajñāna), and remaining fourteen are fashioned by the celestial devas. Eight splendours (prātihārya): 1. The Ashoka tree (aśoka vrksa); 2. Bejeweled throne (simhāsana); 3. Three-tier canopy (chatra); 4. Halo of unmatched luminance (bhāmaņdal); 5. Divine voice of the Lord without lip movement (divya dhvani); 6. Shower of fragrant flowers (puşpa-varṣā); 7. Waving of sixty-four majestic hand-fans (camara); and 8. Profound sound of kettle-drums (dundubhi) and other musical instruments. 181
