38, 39. In the same way an ascetic should not say about rivers—These rivers are plentiful of water; this entices one to swim across; this entices one to boating; on its banks any or all beings can sit and drink its water.
If at all he wants to make a comment he should say—These rivers are generally plentiful of water; these rivers are deep; they have a strong current; they have a wide bed. सावध भाषा वर्जन ४0 : तहेव सावज्जं जोगं परस्सट्ठाए निट्ठि।
कीरमाणं ति वा नच्चा सावज्जं न लवे मुणी॥ ४१ : सुकडि त्ति सुपक्कि त्ति सुछिन्ने सुहडे मडे।
___ सुनिट्ठिए सुलट्ठि ति सावज्जं वज्जए मुणी॥ गृहस्थ का ऐसा सावध कार्य-जो दूसरे के वास्ते भूतकाल में किया गया हो या वर्तमानकाल में हो रहा हो या भविष्य में होगा उस विषय में मुनि ऐसी भाषा नहीं बोले जैसे कि-अच्छा किया यह विशाल भवन बना लिया, अच्छा हुआ यह सहस्रपाक तेल आदि पका लिया, अच्छा हुआ यह विकट वन आदि काट लिया, | अच्छा हुआ उस नीच के घर चोरी हो गई, अच्छा हुआ वह दुष्ट निन्दक मर गया, अच्छा हुआ जो उस अभिमानी का धन मूल से नष्ट हो गया तथा अच्छा हो यह इस कन्या का विवाह हो जाय क्योंकि यह बड़ी सुन्दर है॥४०-४१॥ NEGATION OF DISCUSSING MUNDANE ACTIVITIES
