Most probably this statement has been given keeping that idea in view. The statement that violence is an anarya (not arya) concept is not aimed at blaming some particular social or ethnic group. Arya is not just a name of a caste or a race of people; a man of noble conduct is also called arya. Its opposite or one not having noble conduct is called anarya. With this view violence is termed as ‘not a noble (anarya) act'. __ १३८. तत्थ जे आरिया ते एवं वयासी-“से दुद्दिटुं च भे, दुस्सुयं च भे, दुम्मयं च भे, दुविण्णायं च भे, उड्ढं अहं तिरियं दिसासु सव्वओ दुप्पडिलेहियं च भे, जं णं तुब्भे एवं आइक्खह, एवं भासह, एवं परूवेह, एवं पण्णवेह, सव्वे पाणा सव्वे भूया 8 सव्वे जीवा सव्वे सत्ता हंतव्वा, अज्जावेयव्वा, परिघेत्तव्वा, परियावेयव्वा, उद्दवेयव्वा। एत्थ वि जाणह नत्थित्थ दोसो।" १. १३८. इस जगत् में (हिंसा से दूर रहने वाले) जो आर्य हैं उन्होंने ऐसा कहा है-“ओ हिंसावादियो ! आपने दोषपूर्ण देखा है, दोषपूर्ण सुना है, दोषपूर्ण माना है, आपने दोषपूर्ण ही समझा है, ऊँची-नीची-तिरछी सभी दिशाओं में जो पर्यालोचन किया है वह भी दोषपूर्ण है। जोकि आप ऐसा कहते हैं, ऐसा भाषण करते हैं, ऐसी प्रज्ञापना करते हैं, ऐसी प्ररूपणा करते हैं कि सभी प्राण, भूत, जीव और सत्त्व का हनन करना चाहिए, उन पर शासन a करना चाहिए, उन्हें बलात् पकड़कर दास बनाना चाहिए, उन्हें परिताप देना चाहिए, उनको प्राणहीन बनाना चाहिए। तथा इस विषय में यह निश्चित समझ लो कि हिंसा में कोई दोष नहीं है।" ___138. The aryas (who avoid violence) in this world have said"O supporters of violence ! You have seen this wrongly, heard this wrongly, contemplated this wrongly, understood this wrongly and also wrongly examined this in upper, lower and transverse directions from all angles. That is why you state, speak, propagate and elaborate that everything which breathes, which exists, which lives and which has any essence or potential of life, could be destroyed or ruled over, or subjugated, or harmed, or deprived of its essence or potential.
