________________ Pravacanasāra Verse No. Verse Topic Page 3-18 अयदाचारो समणो --- 270 3-19 हवदि व ण हवदि 271 The ascetic without due diligence engenders bondage of karmas; the ascetic with diligence does not engender bondage of karmas Attachment to possessions (parigraha) certainly engenders bondage of karmas The ascetic who has not set himself free of attachment to possessions (parigraha) cannot have purity of mind 3-20 ण हि णिरवेक्खो चाओ 273 3-21 किध तम्मि णत्थि 274 Attachment to possessions (parigraha) must result in infatuation (mūrcchā) and initiation (ārambha) 3-22 छेदो जेण ण विज्जदि 275 There are exceptions; certain possessions (parigraha) can be used by the ascetic The exception-path (apavāda mārga) for the ascetic 3-23 अप्पडिकुटुं उवधिं 277 3-24 किं किंचण त्ति तक्कं 278 The argument for allowing certain external possessions 3-25 उवयरणं जिणमग्गे लिंगं 279 3-26 इहलोगणिरावेक्खो These possessions (parigraha) are used as instruments for treading the path to liberation With detachment, the ascetic engages in appropriate partaking of food (ahāra) and roaming (vihāra) 280 3-27 जस्स अणेसणमप्पा तं पि --- 281 Such an ascetic does not partake of food or roam; he is ‘nirāhārī' and 'avihāri' The ascetic employs his body for austerity (tapa) 3-28 केवलदेहो समणो - 282 (lvi)
