To the soul seeker, one always embracing the virtues, worthy of spiritual association, brother Mohanlal, Durban. From Mumbai, I, Raichand, seeker of liberation, offer the appropriate salutations to you with the soul in mind. All is well here. I have received your letter addressed to me. For a variety of reasons, there was a delay in replying to you. Then I heard that you were due to come this way, so I postponed my response; however, I have now received the news that it will almost be a year before your return, and so I am writing to you. The questions in your letter about the soul and associated matters and your eagerness for my response to them, are both commendable. However, when I received your letter, I was not in a state of mind to respond to you mainly because of the deep sense of detachment I was feeling towards all worldly matters at the time. I had thought that after a while, I will take a short break from my worldly detachment and write to you, but even that did not happen. I did not even acknowledge the receipt of your letter; such was the lapse on my part that I felt a sense of regret in my mind. At that point, I heard that you were due to come to this country shortly and hence I felt that my delay in replying became more favorable as we would have the opportunity to discuss your questions face to face as some of them were complex and difficult to explain in writing.
