16 In the fourth Appendix popular names noted in the ms. of the Haimanighantusesakosa, written 150 years before the commentator, are compared with those given by the commentator himself. This Appendix makes it clear that the tradition of introducing Woodland herbs to the readers by popular names is very old. The fifth Appendix contains an index of the quotations cccurring in the commentary. The sixth Appendix contains an alphabetical index of the names of the authors that occur in the commentary. The seventh Appendix gives an index of the names of the works referred to by the commentator. The eighth Appendix gives the quotations of Dhanvantarinighantu as they occur in the Nighantusesatika and side by side the relevant slokas from the printed Dhanvantarinighantu. And wherever the difference in the readings is found it is marked by bold types. This Appendix should be studied critically.
