In some cases of spirit-possession, where the result is barrenness or other form of ill-luck, no bodily signs are visible. In the Konkan as well as in the Dakhan, the following diseases have been generally attributed to spirit-possession, Monomania, Melancholia, Hypochondriasis, Mania, Dementia, Catalepsy, Hysteria, Epilepsy, Convulsions, Delirium, Malaria, Fainting, Long-continued disease, Cholera and other epidemics, and Sudden Illnes.16 Spirit-possession brings sickness and misfortune.
