छन्दोदर्शनम् संविदा पुरुष स्वमनु स्वरन्ती
वाग् विदा प्रतिमा पुरुषस्य पूर्णा ॥१॥ पदपाठ :- नमः। ते । देवि । सरस्वति । त्वम् । नेत्री ।
माया । विश्वस्य । एव । जनित्री । माता ॥ सम्ऽविदा । पुरुषम् । स्वम् । अनु । स्वरन्ती । वाक् । विदा। प्रतिऽमा । पुरुषस्य । पूर्णा ॥
Salutations to you, Goddess Sarasvati. You are the guide, the measure, the mother who brought forth the universe. You who are full of wisdom follow your own Spirit through your power of speech. You are spirit personified.
अन्वयभाष्यम्। हे देवि! देवतात्मिके ! सरस्वति! ते तुभ्यं नमः, त्वं विश्वस्य सर्वस्यैवास्य जगतः नेत्री प्रणेत्री अग्रणी: सञ्चालिकेति यावत्, माया प्रमात्री प्रमाणभूता प्रत्यक्षा जनित्री जनयित्री माता साक्षात् जननी इति सुप्रसिद्धा, अत्र "जनिता मन्त्रे" (पा- सू. ६, ४, ५३) इति सूत्रात् “जनिता" इत्यस्य स्त्रीप्रत्ययान्तस्य रूपं “जनित्री" इति, “जनयित्री” इति अर्थे, सा त्वं संविदा सम्यग् ज्ञानेन स्वं पुरुषं परमं आत्मानं अनुस्वरन्ती सती वागात्मिका सर्वेभ्यः परा वाचकशक्तिः तस्य पुरुषस्य पूर्णा समाना तेन तुल्या प्रतिमानभूता प्रतिमा प्रत्यक्षा तनूः भवति, एतेन तस्य परमात्मनः परोक्षस्य वागेव साक्षात् मूर्तिमती परमा शक्तिरिति सिध्यतीति ॥
COMMENTARY-SUMMARY TRANSLATION
Oh great Goddess Sarasvati, salutations to you. You are the leader and guide of this whole universe. You are the measure of this world and the very standard set in this world. You are the birth-giving mother of the universe. You with your sound wisdom give expression to your highest Atmå (the inmost spirit) by means of Våk or speech. You are the personification of the Atman or spirit. Våk is the visible embodiment of the highest spirit, Paramātmå, though he is invisible.
द्वितीया ऋक् । सरस्वति त्वं रसैन साम्नाऽऽत्मानं पुरुष स्वं ब्रह्माणमन्वेषि सत्यम् ॥
