छन्दोदर्शनम
अथ वस्तुतः सरस्वत्याः पदान्याह- आत्मनः वक्तुः सकाशात् सम्प्रवहन्त्याः पराच्याः पराङ्मुखायाः ते वाच: मनसा साकं चत्वारि तानि पदानि हितानि धृतानि, यानि वक्ष्यामः, तानि एतानि तु अध्यात्मतत्त्वप्रयुक्तानि भवन्तीति ॥
COMMENTARY-SUMMARY TRANSLATION Your three metrical feet are mentioned heretofore by three metres namely Gāyatri, Trishtup and Jagati, by three Vedas and by three sources of light (Agni, Indra, Aditya). These three are technical terms, Adhi-Vidya (pertaining to knowledge), Adhi-Jyautisha (pertaining to light) etc. Issuing out from the self of the speaker, your four feet are associated with the mind, and are invested with spiritual qualities.
षष्ठी ऋक् । वैश्वानरेऽस्मिन् निहितमेकं पदमिदं वाचः।
पर प्राणेष्वन्तरिक्षे वैश्वानरेण यत् पुनः ॥ ६ ॥ पदपाठ :- वैश्वानरे । अस्मिन् । निऽहितम् । एकम् । पदम् । इदम् । वाचः ।
परम् । प्राणेषु । अन्तरिक्षे । वैश्वानरेण । यत् । पुनरिति ॥ The one foot of Vak is grounded in this Vaišvänara (the living self) as subtle word; the second is grounded in the Pränas ( vital powers) in the mid air (i. e., in the inmost space ).
अन्वयभाष्यम् । अस्मिन् वैश्वानरे जीवात्मनि निहितं सूक्ष्मवाग्रपतया समष्टया प्रतिष्ठापितं इदं वाचः एकं पदं, पुनः वैश्वानरेण जीवात्मना अन्तरिक्ष अन्तराकाशे प्राणेषु वैद्युतेषु निहितं यत्तत् परं द्वितीय पदमिति ॥
COMMENTARY-SUMMARY TRANSLATION In this Vaisvānara (the individual soul) is located the first step of Vak, in the form of subtle word which includes everything expressible and expressed. Again in this Vaišvānara ( the individual soul ) Vák places her second foot in the vital powers, in the form of something like lightning.
सप्तमी ऋक् । तत् प्राणैः पुनः स्वरित मूर्ध्नि स्वराद्भिस्तृतीयम् । इदं तै पदं तुरीयमनु ब्रवीमि जिह्वया ॥ ७ ॥
