: (1) JAIN CANONICAL TEXTS AND
THEIR INTERPRETATIONS.
For the Jain Scriptures and their intarpretations Shree Haribhadrasuri in his commentary on Dasavaikalika Sutra lays down as follows; “ Till the times of Arya Vajra Swami (V. S. 174) Jain scriptures had as many as four interpretations attached to them (29FA). They had primary and secondary, indicative and exceptional meanings. Then after by the times of Arya Rakshita Suri Jain scriptures were left with datached meanings viz. Dravyanuyoga, Gantitanuyoga, Charankarananuyoga, Dharma Kathanuyoga, etc. Thus only one ieterpretation was to be carried out.
Avashyaka Niryukti gatha also corroborated this very statement ( 762–763 ) The purport amounts to this,-that it is likely that confusion might arise as one has to restrict to only one interpretation and thus to resort to correct meaning one must have the knowledge of the style of expression prcvalling in the times concerned and the intention of the author.
(2) MUTIPLICITY OF MEANINGS OF WORDS IN SANSKRIT AND PRAKRIT
Sanskrit and Prakrit language fully abound
