PREFACE
The present edition was undertaken two years back. When I undertook it, I had no idea that the text alone would cover so many pages. Again, owing to the out-break of war, the cost of paper has gone very high, and I had, therefore, to give up the idea of adding notes, index and commentary for the present. The Commentary, however, will be printed soon, and issued separately.
The editor acknowledges his indebtedness to the University of Bombay, for the substantial financial help it has granted towards the cost of the publication of this book,
I must also acknowledge with gratitude the help that I received from Prin. R. D. Karmarkar, M, A. from time to time. His advice and help were very useful to me on more than one occasion.
I have also to thank my students Mr. S. L. Hirve, B. A. and Mr. S. S. Deshpande, B. A. for doing most of the copying work. To Mr. Chapekar and Mr. Vaze, of the Arya Sanskriti Press, and to Mr. Barve of the Aryabhushan Press, my thanks are due for having done the work neatly and satisfactorily.
I only hope that the work would be of some use to those who are working in the field of Prakrits, and Jain Literature.
