________________ Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra www.kobatirth.org 16 Acharya Shri Kailassagarsuri Gyanmandir गोतवीतरागप्रबन्धः tion in Kannada which is quite helpful in understanding the text. iv) Shri D. Padmanabha Sharma refers (in the Introduction to his edition, see B above) to a Kannada commentary written by Bommarasa of Būnahalli ( mod. Bhuvanahalli, Dt. Mysore) He was a Jaina-Brāhmaṇa of the Vatsagotra. His father's name was Cannayya, and his two elder brothers were Padmanabha and Devacandra. He completed his Kannada commentary in Śaka 1764, i.e., A. D. 1842. A note on the palm-leaf Ms mentions January 20, 1844 : perhaps the author himself prepared a copy two years later. It is quite likely that the Kannada commentary in the Arrah Ms. has much in common with Bommarasa's commentary. These two deserve to be compared. 4. Panditācārya: the Author The colophons give the name of the author as Śrīmad-Abhinava-Carukīrti-Panditācārya-( varya )1, and the concluding verses, Pandita-varya and Panditācāryavarya. Śrimad and Varya are obviously honorific. Cărukīrti is the common title of the Bhattarakas of Śravana Belgola; and the term Abhinava is generally prefixed to the newly consecrated Bhaṭṭāraka. So it is better, for the sake of brevity, that we take the author's name as Panditācārya. He was born at Simhapura (according to the Kannada Commentary in the Arrah 1) In some Mss. the term, Varya, is omitted, 2) Somehow this commentary does not quoted below. explain verse No. 15, For Private And Personal Use Only
