DESCRIPTIVE catalogues of Sanskrit Manuscripts (Indian Museum collection) preserved in the archives of the Society had been undertaken serially out of annual grants from the State Government. The present number is the second volume in the series consisting of descriptions of 378 texts on Grammar (Vyakaraṇa) including twenty-fuor texts on Koşa (anthology) and sixteen on Chanda (metrics). Principally texts of Paninian school beginning with the NandikesvaraKāšika and including the Aṣṭadhyāyi sūtrapāṭha, PrakriyaKaumudi, Laghusiddhantakaumudi, Madhyasiddhantakaumudi, Sārasiddhāntakaumudi and many others have been described in the catalogue. Texts of other schools, viz., Sarasvataprakriyā, Kātantra, Mugdhabodha Supadma, Harināmāmṛta, etc., have also been described. Some of the texts like the Gairikasūtra, Paribhāsāpāṭha, Dhatupāṭha, Prabodhacandrikā, Sabdasāra, Sambandhopadeśa, Lakṣaṇāvati, Samskṛtamañjarī, etc., of which we possess complete manuscripts, are still considered useful for a comprehensive study of Sanskrit Grammar and Linguistics. Scholars are of opinion that they should be critically edited and published for the benefit of workers in the field. We would have been extremely happy to undertake this academic service if only necessary funds are available.

The present edition of the catalogue begun by late Pandit Narendra Chandra Vedantatirtha has been completed by late Pulin Behari Chakravarti. But we regret very much that both the editors are no longer with us today when it is released. We, however, record our deep sense of appreciation for the services rendered by both the two scholars and pay our homage to their memory.
