ग्रीन
A neoplasm or newgrowth, loosely called a tumour is a new formation of tissue which reproduces with greater or less accuracy the structure of the tissue from which it arises, but which serves no useful purpose in the economy of the body. Such a tumour may arise from a single cell or more probably from a group of cells, and these may either be of epithelial or of connective tissue type. The newgrowth differs from a normal tissue and from other new tissue formations such as those seen in inflammatory or in reparative processes, in that its cells are less differentiated, their tendency is towards reproduction rather than usefulness, and their growth is irregular and disorderly.

इन नवीन विचारकों ने जो कुछ कहा है उसका सारांश यह है कि १. अर्बुद शारीरिक ऊति की एक प्रकार की नववृद्धि होता है ।
२. ऊति की इस नवीन वृद्धि का कोई कार्य विशेष नहीं होता है। जिसका अर्थ यह है कि शरीर में एक ऊति से जिस कार्य के सम्पादन की अपेक्षा की जाती है वह कार्य एक अर्बुदस्थ वृद्धिंगत वही ऊति नहीं करती ।
३. ऊतीय नववृद्धि निरन्तर बनी रहती है ।
४. ऊतीय नववृद्धि में उत्तरोत्तर वृद्धि की प्रवृत्ति होती है ।
५. अर्बुद जिस ऊति में बनता है उस ऊति के लिए उसी प्रकार रहता है जिस प्रकार कि एक परजीवी ( parasite ) अपने पोषक ( host ) के साथ रहता हुआ पोषक का नाश करता है ।
६. अर्बुद और परमचय या परमघटन ( hypertrophy ) में सदैव यह अन्तर होता है कि परमचय में शारीरिक ऊति की वृद्धि के साथ साथ उस ऊति की स्वाभाविक क्रियाशक्ति भी बढ़ती है परन्तु अर्बुद में ऊति की वृद्धि तो होती है पर स्वाभाविक क्रियाशक्ति में कोई वृद्धि नहीं होती ।
