In the year 1946, when the second volume was passing through the press, the Library received as a gift a bundle of most valuable manuscripts from the Royal Deoghar. The collection expanded further by the addition of a few others purchased from different sources. These additional MSS could not be included in the regular list of MSS, but have been included in an Appendix at the end of this Volume.
Exactly like the previous volume, the present volume also is based on the existing Card Index of MSS preserved in the minuscript library. It is not necessary, therefore, to point out that original MSS have rarely been consulted in verifying the entries, because obviously, it is not the purpose of this List to give elaborate and very accurate information on MSS such as is expected in a Descriptive Catalogue. The Descriptive Catalogue of MSS in the Oriental Institute is in preparation, but it has been possible to print only two volumes of this Catalogue. As the complete descriptive catalogue is likely to take several generations at the present strength of the staff and facilities, it was thought fit and proper to give an idea of the most valuable contents of the Library of the Oriental Institute, Baroda, in advance in an Alphabetical List which is comparatively easy and takes less time. This volunie under the circumstances goes out to the world of scholars with all its imperfections of which the compiler of the catalogue is conscious. It should, however, be remembered that a catalogue of this kind has its usefulness, and is not without its obvious advantages.
