Yāska's commentary not being exhaustive, Deva rāja Yajvan, son of Yajñes va ra, native of a suburb of Range sap uri' in Da ks in a p a t ha, 3 wrote another commentary on the Nighantu between the twelfth and the thirteenth centuries of the Christian era. He quotes from Bhoja (1018--1060)* and Ksirasvamin' (beginning of the 12th century A.C. See $4, para. 1, below) and, apparently, is not aware of Sāyaṇa's commentaries on the Vedas or Durgācarya's commentary on the Nirruleta.'
It is not known when Durgācārya wrote his commentary on the Nirukta. In the colophons he is styled Bhagavat and Jambūmārgāśramavāsin (living in Jambumārgāśrama).' Probably he flourished between Devarāja and Sāyaṇa.
