करें' । तब श्राषाढभूति ने राष्ट्रपाल नामक एक नाटक की रचना की और राजगृह नगरी के राजा सिंहस्थ की राजसभा में उस नाटक का खेलना निश्चित कर राजा से ५०० राजकुमार मांगे । राजा ने देन स्वीकार किया तथा नाटक खेला गया । भाषाढभूति ने भरतचक्रवर्ती का रूप किया
और ५०० राजकुमार सामन्त बने । इस नाटक में चौदह रत्न, नव निधान, अरीसा भवन आदि का दृश्य दिखाया । फिर अरीसा भवन में ५०० राजकुमारों के साथ विरक्त होकर दीक्षा ली और आभूषण वगैरह अपनी स्त्रियों को जीविका के अर्थ दे दिये । यह राष्ट्रपाल नामक नाटक इतना सुंदर रचा गया था कि, विश्वकर्मा नट जब जब उसे खेलता तब तब क्षत्रिय राजकुमार दीक्षित होते थे। अतः सम्पूर्ण क्षत्रिय राजकुमारों के दीक्षित होने के भय से यह नाटक अग्नि में । जला डाला गया. In ancient times Aşadhabhūti was the disciple of Dharmaruchisūri. Once lie went to Viśvakarmă, a royal actor to ask for food. He got one sweet-ball from that place. While coming out from the house he thought that the Guru would take the ball and he would get nothing; so thinking he changed his form and went to the actor a second time. Thinking that the priest would take the second ball, he changed his form and went again. Viśvakarmā saw him coming with different formssome times beautiful, some |
timos awkward, some times one-eyed, some times leprous. He told his two beautiful daughters that if the man were fascinated, he would be usoful to them. The daughters after enticing, fascinated him. Having given up his asceticism, he abandoned his Guru and put on the dress of an actor. He became the leader of actors after becoming proficient in the art of acting. He used to earn a mass of wealth by propitiating princes. He disliked wine and so the two daughters of Viśvakarmā gave it up through his advice. Once a king had ordered that only the actors, without any woman, should perform a play at the court. The two wives of Āsādhabhūti thought that their husba nd would not be at home that night and so they could take wine. They did accordingly and slept upstairs quite naked. The king postponed the performance owing to some circumstances; so Asadhabhuti returning, saw the drunken plight of the wives, lost all attachment for the world and returned.
