But, because he has to live up to his vocation good example to his pupils, these tendencies will b. abeyance, and only his good tendencies will be manif. this aphorism stresses the great importance of right ment, association with those who are spiritually m you are born as a dog, you may still have good tender they will be greatly restricted by your dog condition. to act in accordance with your animal nature. जाति-देश-काल-व्यवहितानामप्यानन्तर्यं स्मृतिसंस्कारयोरेकरूपत्वात् ॥६॥ 9. Because of our memory of past tendencies, the cause and effect is not broken by change of speci or time. By “memory," Patanjali does not means remembering, but unconscious co-ordination of the im received in past lives with the actions and thought present life. Karma the chain of cause and effect—is a continuous. If, in the course of many incarnations, w our species-evolving from animal into man, or fr into some non-human type of being our karma continue to operate. However, as noted in the p aphorism, only those tendencies appropriate to ou and condition will be manifested in any one life; the re held in abeyance until we reincarnate into another spo condition appropriate to them.
