________________ [ 84 ] objects of worship is everywhere recognized, according to which a man in his animal nature is said to belong to Paśubhava. When there is an awakening of the latent spiritual power it is called Virabhava and when there is perfect illumination and there is a sense of freedom and bliss which is divine in nature it is called Divyabhava. Beyond these three, we may consider the case of transcendental which is called Bhāvātīta. In actual fact we find that the classification is different from different points of view. The Sarvollāsatantra lays down that Bhāva is a state of religious consciousness without which any worship is futile. It is said that the Supreme Bhava is identical with Parama Brahma.1 It is stated that the Supreme Bhāva or Parabrahma becomes many under the influence of Kriya and becomes threefold namely Pasu, Vīra and Divya. It is further stated that the rituals corresponding to Pasu Bhāva is threefold, namely Vedic, Vaiṣṇava and Śiva. There are three kinds of worshippers under the same group. This group is technically known as Svabhāva Paśu but there is a different kind of Pasu other than the Svabhāva. It is called Vibhava Pasu.2 The distinction between these two kinds of Pasus is very important but different opinions are held on the nature of these distinctions. In some works it is stated that Svabhāva Pasu is an exclusive worshipper of male gods but Vibhava Pasu together with the Vīra and Divya is allowed to worship a Sakti.3 It is pointed out by scholars that a Vibhavapaśu is indeed free from Pasubhava but the higher Virabhava does not yet appear in him.
