________________ GEOGRAPHICAL LEXICON 271 It seems that Bambhatthalaya was another name of Hatthinăura. It is said in the Vasudevahındī that wherever the venerable ascetic Usabha travelled in Halthinūpura for alms, people made a jewel-seat (manipīdhiya) in his honour and since then came into being Bambhatthala 87 Bannäsa-a river It is said that the coin was cultivated by flood in this river. 88 Several rivers of this name are noticed It is difficult to identify this river. Būravai—a city Bāravi (Dxãravati) was the capital of Suratthā which is counted among the twenty five and a half Aryan countries. Bāravi is described in several texts of the Jains and mentioned as nine yojanas in extension and twelve in length, sunounded by the stone walls 59 To the north-east of the city was located the mountain Revaya" and nearby was the Nandanayana garden with the shrine of Surappia Jakhha 91 Baravai was the home of Andhagavanhi and Kanha Vasudeva." It is said that Bāra ai was restroyed by the sagc Divāyana due to the excessive drinking of the Yadava princes P4 Bāravai was a contic of trade 9 and people travelled here from Nepāla pattana) by boat inca) 86 In the l'asude i ahindi, Basag is mentioned as a chief town of the four Janapadas, víz , Inattha, Kusuttha, Surattha and Sukkarattha.87 ACcording to the Jahibhirulo, 02 account of the pressure of Jarasandha, Krsna left Mathurā and founded the city of Dvārakā near the mountain Raivataka.98 Bäravai is identified with modern Junagadh situated very near the Raivataka hills and is different from Dvārakā on the sea-shore. Benna-anzer The city of Bennāyada was situated on the bank of the river Bennā.100 It is identified with the Wain Gangā in the Central Provinces.
