________________ 37 Omniscience is otherwise called Kepalagnina, pure knowledge, One who has this knowledge is jivaimukta (1.e., emancipatedwhile-in-body). The Omniscient Jivanmūkta are of two classes. Under the first class como those who are Sãminya-kivalins i e, Ordinary Omniscient Beings The Tirthankaras or the teachers form the second class The Jivanmukta is a Being who is Omniscient, although he is embodied still. The Sūmānyakēvalins effect their own salvation only. But the Tirthankaras on the contrary, are not satisfied with attaining their own emancipation but they teach the afflicted people of the world the way to their deliverance from the endless sufferings. The Tırthinkaras are so called because their teachings form the Tirtha or bridges in the ocean of the world. The religious books of the Jainas are loud in their praises of the Tırthankara's qualities. He is the teacher of the true religion. The Arhat is worshipped as the Terthankara also because He addresses the Tertha or the assembly of the four great groups of people, the Monks, the Nuns, the House-holders and the Ladies. “One who is Arhat has destroyed the four kinds of the Ghāti-karma.
