It will be recalled that the two principal types of Vedic recitations are the padapātha and the samhitāpatha. Pāņini also points out the recitation of the complete text or pārāyana (V. S. Agrawala, India 293ff.). It can be seen from the above that all means were adopted to avoid any further loss to the Jaina tradition.
