________________ -, Whether bappy or miserable in this world thou must exercise piety; if happy to increase thy happiness and I miserable to remove thy misery. धर्मारामतरुणां फलानि सन्द्रियार्थसौस्यानि । सरक्ष्य सांस्तत स्तान्युच्चिनुयुः तैरुपायैस्त्वम् ।। १६ ।। The pleasures derived from all sense-objects are fruits of the trees of the garden of piety. There, fore preserve thou the trees and pluck the fruits by all means. धर्मः सुखस्य हेतु: हेतु विराधकः स्वकार्यस्य । तस्मात्सुखभंगभिया मा भूर्धर्मस्य विमुखस्त्वम् ॥ २०॥ Piety is the cause of happiness. The cause cannot oppose its own effect. Therefore for fear of being deprived of (present) sense pleasures, thou shoudst not be indifferent to piety (Dharma). धर्मादवाप्त विभवो धर्म प्रतिपाल्य भोगमनुभवतु । बीजादवाप्त-धान्यः कृषीवल स्तस्य बीजमिव ॥ २१ ॥ The person who in consequence of piety has acquired prosperity may bave enjoyments while preserving piety like the peasant, who gets corn from the seed, but preserves the seed of that com. कृत्वा धर्मविघातं विषय-सुखान्यनुभवति ये मोहात् । भाच्छेद्य तरु मूलात् फलानि गह्वन्ति ते पापाः ।। २४॥ Those, who under delusion, destroying Dharma: enjoy sense-pleasures are sinful, for they take the fruit (after) cutting down the tree at its root. न सुखानुमवात्पापं पापं तदेतु-पातकारंभात । . माजीणं मिष्टानामनु तन्माषा यतिक्रमणात् ।। २७ ।'
