He himself was ascetic in his living and was preaching to others to accept the ascetic way of life Atheists and those who do not believe in rebirth can never even remotely imagine to lead an ascetic life. Buddha, in his preachings has always supported the theistic views His very common preachings were 'He who kills, speaks a lie, steals, commits adultery, drinks, and practices such other vices digs his own grave "'l5 The commandments of Lord Buddha were "Abstinence from all evils, acquisition of the good, and purification of one's own mind "16
