भारी रोगकी शान्तिके समय, गर्भाधानादि विधियों के समय तथा पिता आदिके मरणके समय, होमका लक्षण बताते वक्त जो कुंडोंका लक्षण पहले कह आये हैं उसे समय समयमें देखकर बुद्धिमान गिरस्त सारी होमविधि करे ॥ १७५ ।। १७६ ॥ १७७ ॥
होम करनेका फल। कृते होमविधौ लोके सर्वशान्तिः प्रजायते । वक्ष्येऽधुना परग्रन्थे यजमानस्य लक्षणम् ॥ १७८ ॥
ऊपर कहे अनुसार होमविधिके करनेसे संसारमें चारों और शान्ति छा जाती है । अब अन्य ग्रन्थोंमें जो यजमानका लक्षण कहा गया है वह कहा जाता है ॥ १७८॥
यजमान । यजमानस्तु मुख्योऽत्र पत्नी पुत्रश्च कन्यका । ऋत्विक् शिष्यो गुरुर्धाता भागिनेयः सुतापतिः ॥ १७९ ।। एतेनैव हुतं यत्तु तध्रुवं स्वयमेव हि ।
कार्यवशात्स्वयं कर्ता कर्तुं यदि न शक्यते ॥ १८० ॥ इस होम कार्यके करनेमें अपनी धर्मपत्नी, पुत्र, कन्या, ऋत्विक, शिष्य, गुरु, भाई, भांजा और दामाद (जवाई ) ये सब मुख्य यजमान गिने जाते हैं। यदि कार्यवश स्वयं होम आदिको करनेवाला पुरुष होम न कर सके तो इनके द्वारा किया गया होम ऐसा समझना चाहिए कि मानों खुइने ही किया है ॥ १७९ ॥ १८० ॥
होम करनेका समय । भानौ समुदिते विप्रो जुहुयावनं तथा । अनुदिते तथा प्रातर्गवां च मोचनेऽपि वा ॥ १८१ ॥ हस्तादूर्ध्वं रविर्यावद्धवं हित्वा न गच्छति । तावदेव हि कालोऽयं प्रातस्तूदितहोमिनाम् ॥ १८२ ॥
सर्यके उदय होने पर ब्राह्मण होम करे, या सूर्योदय न होनेके पहले होम करे, अथवा प्रात:काल जब गायें जंगलमें चरनेके लिए छोड़ी जाय उस समय होम करे । जबतक सूर्य पृथिवीसे एक हाथ ऊंचा नहीं जाता है तब तकका काल प्रातःकाल कहा गया है ॥ १८॥ १८२॥
