stated to have written his Pattali or feast to the marriage party of Srikrishna at his father-in-law's house, in 1190 A. D. according to a doggerel formed by misjoining parts of a Tribhangi Chhanda as follows:
सुनो कहै यह संवत जानौ । बारह सानो सैता लाना । which was interpreted to give Samvat 1247. The original verse really stands as follows : -
ब्रज देश सुहेरं पुरी कुम्हेरं वास हमेरं सदा रहे। द्विज मोहन लालं ............ अद्भुत हालं मुनो कहे । यह संवत जानौ बारह सानो सेता लानो साउन मुदी।
माजन मनरंगी छंद त्रिभंगी पत्तलि चंगी चाल जुदी। Mohanalāla wroto 23 verses, viz., 14 Dohûs and nine Tribhungi verses of which the dohā stanza quoted above is the only one, which is most corrupt and incompleto. In the second line as many as five lotters have been altogother Omitted and in the third there is one inūtrii in excess of the roquired number. Judging from the rest of his book it is clear that Mohanalāla could not have been guilty of such an error and that the fault lay with the copyist who was unable to read the original properly. The fact that he omitted five letters of thu second line indivatos that he inight have misroad other words, which not only caused metrical defects but introduced nonsense in the third line. The writer has endeavoured to restore the wrongly copied stanza as follows :
ब्रज देश महरं पुरो कुम्हेरं वास हमेरं सदा रहै। द्विज मेाहन लालं [पत्तलि ख्यालं] अद्भुत हालं मुनो कहै। • यह संवत जानी ठारह मा नौ सातें लानौ सनउ सुदी ।
सावन मनरंगो कंद त्रिभंगो.पत्तन्नि चंगी चाल जुदी ॥ This would give the date as Saturday the 7th of the bright fortnight of Srāvaņa month in Samvat 1800, corresponding . to Saturday the 16th July, 1743 A. D., showing a difference of 496 yoars as compared with the date proposed by the Superintendent. The writer's argument is that if बारह सानो
