II, 27; Mk XI 3) e g lankam gantūna sia dittha X. The word ccea and ccia are used in the sense of iva. (RT II. 26, M7 XI 12) 10 Bālliki Mārkandeya says Bāblīkī is the same with that of Avanti, the only difference is--ra becomes la in it (Mk XI 13) e.g. salası-luhaso-laha-nıbbhalo mäludo vahai. It is the language of dhúrta and others 11 Nāgaraka Apabhramsa Purusottam recognises three clear dialects of Apabhramsa, eg Nāgaraka, Vrācadaka and Upanāgaraka, besides less remarkable local variants Rāmaśarmã and Mārkandeya also follow him, but mention some other varieties without giving their characteristics These are-Vrācada, Lāta, Vaidarbha, Upanāgara, Nāgara, Vārvara, Āvantya, Pāñcāla, Tākka, Mālava, Kaikeya, Gauda. Audra, Daiva, Pāścātya, Pandya, Kauntala, Simhala, Kalinga, Prācya, Kärnāta, Kāñca, Dravida, Gaurjara, Abhira, Madhyadesiya and Vaidāla (=27 in all) Kramadīśvara's Srāvanti (or Srāvasti) is not mentioned by any of them He has given also twelve varieties of Apabhramśa which will be found in the classification of Rāmaśarmā and Mārkandeya Of these Nāgara is regarded as the maio dialect The chief charcteristics of Någara are given below I The following consonantal changes are noticed k>g, nāka>pāgu, kh>gh, sukha> sughu, t>d, patita> padida, th>dh; sotha> sodha.
