It is said Takkadesīya-bhāsāyām drsyate Drāvidī tathā / tatra cāyam višeso'sti Drāvidair ādi tāparam || ie Drāvidi is found in the language of the Takka country Its peculiarity as a language is this it is honoured by Drāvidas The grammarian Hariscandra intends to say that this Takka-dialect is an Apabhramśa, because Apabhramśa is used by the poets (lit. skilled) in dramatic compositions (Mk XVI 2) It is, therefore, not an ordinary Prakrit says Puruşottam (Pu XVI 10) These are the characteristics of Takki I The suffix u is profusedly used in Țakki (Pu XVI 2), but not always (Mk HVI.3) II The instrumental singular termination of a-base is em optionally (Pu XVI.3) but Mārkaņdeya (XVI 4) admits only e III The (dative)-ablative and genitive plural termination is ham and hum (Pu XVI 4-5, MK XVI 5-6) IV. Even the pronominal terminations of ablative and geni tive plural are also ham and hum optionally In this case the penultimate is lengthened (Pu.XVI 6, Mk XVI 7) e g. kaham (kesam), jaham (yesam), taham (tesam), edaham (eteşām), imāham (eşām) V The following pronominal substitutes are found tvam> tuhum (Pu XVI 7 and MK XVI 8 reads tunga) aham> hamam and hamum (Pu XVI 7, hammi, hym (Mk XVI 9) mama>mahum (Mk XVI.10) VI. The substitute of yatbā > jidha (Pu XVI 8) and jabā (Mk XVI 11-12) tathā - tidha (Pu XVI 8) and tahā (Mk XVI. 11-12) VII.
