मुंबईप्रान्तके प्राचीन जैन स्मारक।
गुजरात विभाग। - (२) अहमदाबाद जिला ।
इसकी चौहद्दी इस प्रकार है-पश्चिम और दक्षिण, काठियावाड । उत्तर-बड़ौधा | उत्तर पूर्व-महीकांठा । पूर्व-बालसिनोर और खेड़ा । दक्षिण पूर्व-कम्बेकी खाडी । यह ३८१६ वर्गमील है।
मुख्य स्थान - (१) अहमदाबाद नगर-जब मुसल्मान लोगोंने इस नगर पर अधिकार किया तब उन्होंने जैनियोंके ढंगके मकान बनाए। उनकी मसजिदें भी प्रायः जैन रीतिकी हैं। जेम्स फार्गुसन साहब लिखते हैं:
Mohamedans had here forced themselves upon the most civilised and the most essentially building rice at that time in India, and the Chalukyas Conquercd their conquerors, and forced thein:10 adopt forms and ornaments which;were superior to any thc invaders knew or could have introduced. The result is in style which combines all the degance and finish of Jain or Chalukyan art with a certain largeness of conception, which the Hindu never quite attained, but which is characteristic of people who at this time were subjecting all India to their sway. भावार्थ-भारतमें उस समय एक बहुत ही सभ्य और बहुत ही उपयोगी मकान निर्माण करानेवाली जाति पर मुसल्मानोंने जब अधिकार किया तब चालुक्य लोगोंने अपने जीतनेवालोंको भी जीत लिया अर्थात् उनपर यह असर डाला कि वे उन रीतियोंको
