Bhavabhūti's vocabulary is very extensive I cannot help thinking that, like the present day orthodox method of instruction, he must have committed to memory at least a couple of dictionaries He exhausts nearly all the synonyms of the words asthi, senā, rudhira, dhanus, Sarīra, usu, nakara, and parvata, as mentioned in the Amarakośa 1 Some of his peculiar and partly favourite words are pārāyana, prāgbhāra, dambara, garbha-rūpa, jhampā, tūvara, prān-mandala, parrdhiranā, khuralī nābhyananī, vitanka in Mv.,? pāruplava, I 31/32, IV. 3, atathābhāva, I 34, malimasa, I 35, ranaranaka, I 44, ardamparya, II 7, utkalrkā, III 10, dāmara, III. 15/16, rallz (Prakrt), III.15/16, gallūrana (Prakrit), III. 15/16, pūrnapātra, IV 1, samrāvina, V 11, sevadh, VI 18, ladaha (Prakrit), VII.0/1 in Māl , ranaranaka, I 38/39, (also Prakrit) anaranaa, I 30/31, vañula, II 23, koñjalka, III. 2, kūkali, III 16/17, bhbhīsıkā, IV. 28, kadāra, VI. 2/3 in Utt Some of his favourite words in My are vyatukara, anurudh, parunam, prākrta (also aprākıta) and vidhu Then again he shows the greatest tendency to use onomatopoetic words, many of which he has himself coined Thus in My we find udbudbuda, tankāra, kuttāka, khanatkhanīkrta, ucculup, tātkāra, 8 in Māl ranaranāyamāna, I 28/29, ranaranatkāra, I 28/29, tharatharāyanta (Prakrit), III 12/13, Katakatāanta. Then again I have noticed two incongruous cases in the employment of patronymic words, viz., martrāvaruna and martrāvaruni, varlcartana and varkartanz.
