Now let us see how far we can settle the lower limit of his date. In this connection Kuvalayamālā throws some light. Its author Uddyotana Sūri has praised Haribhadra in this work of his composed in Samvat 835. So, Haribhadra cannot have flourished later than Saṁvat 835.
Before we proceed further, there is one point which remains to be noted. It is that Prabhācandra Sūri writes in his Prabhāvakacaritra (Siddharşiprabandha, v. 89) that Dākṣiṇyacihna Sūri, author of Kuvalayamālā was a brother-disciple of Siddha Kşi. But, how is this possible when we see that Kuvalayamálā was completed a day earlier than Saka 700 i. e. in Samvat 835, whereas Upamitibhavaprapañcākatha of Siddha Rşi in Samvat: 962? Kuvalayamālā should be thoroughly examined before we can discard its date of composition. There is another side of approaching this problem.
We find Siddha Kşi mentioning Haribhadra Sūri as his dharmabodhakaro guruh in the colophons of Upamitibhavaprapañcākathā. This verse, if taken literally, will suggest that Haribhadra was guru of Siddha' Rşi, and consequently our author flourished in the 10th century and not in the sixth of Vikrama era.
Before we proceed further, it may be pointed out from

प्रस्ताये भावतो हन्त स एवाये निवेदितः ॥ १५ ॥” 4 It seems that this view has been accepted by Räjaśokhara Suri in
Prabandhakości, by Munisundara Suri in Upadeśaratnākara, by Ratnas'ekhara Sūri in Arthadapikä and by an incognito in a
Pāiya pattāvali of the Pādivāla gaccha. 5 His dīksaguru was Garga Rşi. This fact is stated in Upamitibhavc
prapaicākatha (colophon, v. 7). 6 Prof. H. Jacobi, too, once held this view and substantiatod it by
