The Essence of Poetry:
One can see in this stotra that the poet Mäntungächärya has used many comparisons while mentioning the virtues and attributes of Lord Rishabhadeva. The first thing to note is that natural forces or natural (including astronomical) events are mentioned repeatedly.
The sun, the moon, sea, spring, lotuses, mountain and wind are used in comparison to the virtues of the Lord. The different words used for the sun and the moon and the other things are listed below. The numbers in brackets refer to the verse number as per the Shvetämbara tradition, where the word appears.
The Sun: Mäntunga-Achärya has used eight synonyms when mentioning the sun. This shows the richness of Sanskrit. These words are:
Surya (7), shahastra-kiran (9), vivasvata (19) shahastra-rashmi (22, 29), aaditya (23) ravi (28), bhanukar (31), Diwäkar (38) dinkruta (33) The figures in brackets are the verse numbers where the particular word appears.
