असत् को सत् की उपमा पुराने जीर्ण वृक्ष से नीचे गिरता हुआ पीला जीर्ण पत्ता नई खिलती कलियो (कोंपलों) से कहता है- "आज जैसे तुम हो, हम भी कभी वैसे ही थे। इस समय जो हम हो रहे है, वैसे ही एक दिन तुम हो जाओगे।" यह असत् उपमा है। कभी पत्तों में ऐसा संवाद नहीं हुआ किन्तु इस कथन का भाव सत्-सत्य है, जीव-जगत् की क्षण-भंगुरता ऐसी ही है जिसे असत् उपमा द्वारा समझाया गया है।

ANALOGY OF SAT TO AN ASAT A pale and withered leaf falling from the tree addresses buds and sprouts-—“As you are at present so were we in the past and as we are now so will you be in the future.” Such dialogue is non-existent but the sentiment conveyed is true. It stresses the ephemeral nature of the world.
